About the Festival
The Festival is an annual showcase of North Carolina dance artists that travels to six communities. Unique in the country and now a North Carolina institution, the event began in 1991 as a weekend of concerts in the UNC/Greensboro Dance Theater showcasing dance artists from across the state. The 2007-08 Festival will stop in Boone, Asheville, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Charlotte. Eight different companies will tour, performing alongside artists local to the host communities, making the actual concerts a mix of local and statewide artists. more...

Becoming a NCDF Touring Artist

Applications for the 2008-09 Festival tour are no longer being accepted. However, if you are interested in participating in 2009-10, we'd very much like to hear from you.

The Festival goes to six communities within the state, and participating artists are expected to perform the same dance at all sites. Each choreographer is asked to contribute about 15 minutes of dance.

We encourage touring artists to take part in Festival outreach programs which involve teaching classes in a variety of settings in association with concert weekends. Additional pay is involved for these programs.

To apply, send a video/DVD of a representative work along with a description of the dance you would like to perform in the Festival. Send this, along with a vitae and a $10 application fee to:

NC Dance Festival
306 Aberdeen Terrace
Greensboro NC 27403

Artists are not eligible to tour for two years in a row. Additionally, choreographers enrolled in degree-granting programs are not eligible.

We are grateful to Target for its support of outreach activities in each of the six Festival communities in association with concert weekends.
